Crochet tunic

Finished at last! It took me about a year from brainstorming the idea to sewing the pieces together. I had a serious creative block during the process and some technical challenges, but overall I’m happy with the result!

Model on photos and future owner of the tunic is my dear friend Monika.

The tunic is made of linen thread with 1,5 mm crochet hook. The circles are combined with leather.

A small lacey part is on the front and a larger piece on the back, holey diagonals create hidden patterns. The base colour is dark blue, geometrical shapes are green, yellow, grey and a little accent with red.

The most challenging were the circles. To turn a rounded shape into rectangular one in a large piece in a way its’s even and flat is quite a conondrum. On smaller circle I increased and played with stitch hight. On large side piece I decided to crochet the corner pieces separately and then join everything together. Lastly smoothed the lines out with last allaround rounds. There’s a previous blog post about this large tile.

Diving deeper into artsy mode

Spring has arrived! It’s rainy and windy, but crocuses, snowdrops and hellebores are blooming, adding colour to the dull and grey surroundings. The next big step is to switch from winter coat to sneakers and light jacket.

This is my last week of “drawing for 45 days” challenge. It has actually taken 55 days. Also, this is the first week of Sketchbook Revival event, wich I’m very excited about.

SBR is an online sketchbook practice event. Every day for 13 days there are two prerecorded sessions with various artist to have a feel of their different ideas and ways for making art. Absolutely inspiring, eyeopening, playful project! This year the focus is on colour, so their’s a learning curve for me for sure.

One thing I’ve embedded into my practise already is contour drawing. It creates loose, etherial lines which I really like. And I’ve been experimenting with portraits, which is intimitating, but thrillingly challenging as well.

Next week I’m going to reflect a bit deeper on my drawing and sketchbooking challenge, I feel I need to write it out of my head.

Check my insta and take care!
